Description:

Fixed blade and notch sights, with scroll engraving on the tang and breech and a pair of German silver barrel bands, and an etched wavy line pattern on the barrel. The hammer is decorated with a checkered oval, an eye and a raised crescent accent on the head and scrollwork down the side. Matching scrollwork is present on the lock and silver trigger guard, with a stepped-down finial. Smooth escutcheons, accent plate, decorative reverse plate, shield escutcheon and teardrop buttplate. Checkered stock with Schnabel tip and bird's head butt. Though no maker's marks are visible, this pistol is identified as having been made by R.P. Bruff of New York, with a similarly decorated arm pictured under Bruff's listing on page 99 of Wilson and Eberhart's book "The Deringer in America: Volume One".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 85% of the original striped blue finish is visible on the barrel, with strongly defined etched lines, a mixed gray and brown patina, and a small patch of heavy spotting on the right side. The hammer and lock plate have turned a pleasing dark color with a few lighter hints around the edges, while the breech and tang show bright case colors. The stock is excellent, with an extremely thin hairline crack extending forward from the right escutcheon, minor varnish loss, and scattered pressure dents. Silver is fine, with a darker patina in the protected areas. Action is excellent.
