Description:

This Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Revolver was manufactured in 1882 and inspected by Ordnance Sub-Inspector David F. Clark (D.F.C.). The revolver has the original 7 1/2 inch barrel and ''bull's-eye'' ejector rod head. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the ''elongated block'' Hartford address and underside of the barrel is stamped with the partial serial number, "2932", a "P" proofmark and the sub-inspector's initials, "D.F.C." A small "G" and "C" are stamped on the barrel below the ejector housing lug. The bottom of the frame is stamped with "D.F.C." above the serial number "82932". The ''three-line/three-date'' patent markings and "U.S." property mark are stamped on the left side of the frame. The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "1357". The trigger guard and back strap are serial numbered "82603". The replacement cylinder is stamped with the partial serial number "6359", a "P" proofmark and the "D.F.C." sub-inspection mark. The revolver has a commercial hammer with short, bordered cross-hatching on the spur. The one-piece walnut grip is stamped with illegible Ordnance inspector and sub-inspector marks stamped on the sides. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver in .45 caliber, blue finish and barrel length and type of stocks not listed (usually indicating 7 1/2 inch and walnut, respectively) when sold to the U.S. government and delivered to the U.S. inspector at the Colt plant on October 23, 1882.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The mismatched replacement cylinder is an old re-blue with 50% of the finish. The revolver barrel, trigger guard and back strap have a silver-gray patina with scattered minor dents and scratches. The barrel has scattered light pitting. The frame and hammer have a gray patina with traces of the casehardened finish in protected areas. There is scattered light pitting on the frame. The slightly undersized replacement grip is refinished with repaired chips on both sides that run diagonally from the middle of the back strap to the middle of the grip strap. The action is fine.
