Description:

The accompanying 1989 Colt factory letter describes this SAA as having a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish and type of stocks not listed when shipped to John P. Lower & Sons in Denver, Co., on August 17, 1887. It has been restored to military specification with all of the early features found on the Ainsworth sub-inspected U.S. contract SAAs such as cylinder with small bolt stops and guides, first style ejector housing with barrel boss, bullseye ejector rod head, script barrel address, and two-date/two-line patent frame markings with "U.S." property mark. The barrel, trigger guard, back strap and right grip are all re-stamped with the "A" sub-inspection mark used by Ainsworth. The cylinder lacks the "A" sub-inspection mark. The lower left side of the grips is re-stamped with the script initials "OWA". Small "P" proof marks are stamped on the barrel ahead of the re-stamped "A" sub-inspection mark and on the cylinder. The full serial number is stamped on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder.

Rating Definition:

This revolver has been expertly totally restored/rebuilt and is in nearly mint condition. The blue finish is slightly brighter than the original Colt military blue finish and shows minimal wear. 99% vivid case colors remain. The one piece custom made grip is near mint. The action is tight and functions perfectly.
