51,210 of Model 1878 DA revolvers were manufactured between 1878 and 1905 compared to 111,500 of the more compact Model 1877 DA revolvers in a similar time frame. This revolver was manufactured late in 1898. The barrel has the one-line address on top and "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" stamped on the left side. The grips ("788") are numbered to the gun, and the loading gate and left side of the grip frame have matching assembly number "215."

Exceptionally fine. The revolver retains 85% plus bright original highly polished blue finish with the rear grip strap and forward ejector rod housing, a smooth brown-gray patina. 90% plus bright original nitre blue remains on the trigger and hammer. The grips are excellent with a few mild handing marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
