Description:

The accompanying 1930 dated letter of provenance states, "This gun was bought in London in 1877 by H.T. Whitney, M.D., a medical missionary on his way to China and was taken by him to Foo Chow and kept there until 1884 when he brought it back with him to Clifton Springs, N.Y. The gun was fired only once in China, and that was to kill a mad dog that got in the doctor's hospital. As the doctor came home via San Francisco, this gun has been nearly around the world." Matching assembly numbers on the grip frame, cylinder, and barrel, and right grip panel numbered to gun. British proofs appear on the cylinder and barrel. The partitioned case contains two oilers and 50 round box of Peters .32 RF cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 60% plus original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. Visible original case colors remain on the hammer. The grips are fine with some minor dings and scratches and retaining nearly all of the original finish. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good showing minor handling/storage marks throughout and worn lining.
