This is a 1929 dated Model 1903 Springfield bolt action rifle that has been converted into a Model 1942 style USMC Sniper rifle. The rifle itself is an original Model 1903 rifle that has a star gauged barrel with a partial star-gauged type mark on the muzzle and the top of the barrel (under the handguard) has been stamped with a pseudo star-gauge mark (H/794), with the front end of the barrel marked: "SA/Ordnance Bomb/1-29". The action is fitted with a "NS" marked bolt that has been repolished and renumbered (1335812) on top to match the rifle. The rifle is fitted with a correct pistol grip "C" stock with a wartime handguard that has been modified like the USMC sniper rifles with a square hole, cut through the handguard to allow the front scope block protrude through. The stock has no inspector cartouche and has been stamped with an unusually large circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area and then it was renumbered on the lower toe area with the matching rifle serial number. The rear sight does not have the 2,850 yard volley notch, and the face of the slide has been repolished to duplicate the NM style. It has the correct milled components along with a heavy checkered buttplate. The rifle has been fitted with a correct height/style of Unertl scope blocks on the receiver and barrel, and a late production original 1942 USMC-Sniper scope. The scope is correctly marked "J. UNERTL/USMC-SNIPER/2517" and has the original screw on scope caps. Complete with original 1918 pattern unmarked leather sling.

Very fine as assembled with 90% of the original parkerized finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The bolt has been repolished and is in the white. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with minimal handling marks overall with clear and distinct proof marks. The scope retains 95% of its blue finish on the scope tube overall with clear markings on the rear of the scope. The scope mounts black anodized finish now has turned a golden patina. It has clear optics with the standard cross-hair reticle.
