According to the included letter from the Springfield Research Service, this rifle was verified by serial number as a U.S. 1903 National Match Rifle sold by Springfield (via the Director of Civilian Marksmanship) to a D.R. Nichols of Worcester, Massachusetts on August 12, 1930. The "star" air gauge stamp is present on the muzzle of the "SA/1-30" barrel, with "1/2907" marked beneath the handguard, a blade front sight and ladder rear sight properly without the 2,800 yard 'volley' notch, and both sights equipped with a set of P.J. O'Hare sight protectors. The receiver bears standard markings, with the "NS" bolt electro-pencil numbered to match on top of the correct bright polished body and fitted with a correct headless short firing pin and reversed safety lever. Fitted with a matching serialized ("1344418" on belly) smooth pistol grip stock, stamped "H" on the bayonet lug, "P" behind the trigger guard and "D.A.L." on the left side, with a pair of reinforcing bolts, a brown leather sling, and a coarse checkered buttplate. A nickel finished cleaning kit is present inside the buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 97% of the original dark parkerized finish, showing some light rubbing on the sights, mild spotting/wear on the exceptional original bright polished bolt, and minor handling marks overall. The reoiled stock is very fine, with mild dings and scuffs, with the leather showing some cracks and white residue. Mechanically excellent.
