Description:

This is a fine original example of a correct early production example of a U.S. Springfield Model 1903 rifle. Manufactured in 1906 with the barrel marked "SA/10-06". The bolt is numbered "5" on the rear safety lug and the underside of the handle, with a blue finish. The smooth straight wrist stock is marked with a small "5" on the tip, a circled sans-serif "P" behind the trigger guard, no reinforcing bolts/pins, a "J.F.C." cartouche on the left side, smooth steel buttplate and a brown leather sling. Correct early style flat top handguard.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 40% of the original finish, with bright wear and scratches on the sides of the front sight assembly, a mixed dark/light gray color to the receiver, hints of a brown patina on the barrel bands and rear sight base, and mild handling marks overall. The stock is also fine, with mild scuffs and dents, and the sling shows some cracking and white residue. Mechanically excellent.
