Less than 1,200 of these Aircrewman revolvers were produced and most were destroyed by the U.S. Air Force when they were removed from service after some failed due to improper ammunition. Less than 50 are believed to have survived being turned into scrap. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 2 inch barrel in .38 special, blue finish, type of stocks not listed, factory engraved "413" on butt, and furnished with a holster supplied by the U.S. Government when sold and shipped to the Port Transportation Officer, San Francisco Port of Embarkation, San Francisco on November 13, 1951, as part of a 150 gun shipment. It has the "PROPERTY OF U.S. AIR FORCE" marking on the back strap, Air Force inventory number "A. F. No. 413" on the butt, matching serial on the yoke and crane, and Air Force medallions on the top of the checkered grips.
