This is an example of an earlier pattern Model 1896/41 sniper rifle that is fitted with the late production improved scope mount and Ajacks scope. This example was one of the very first produced by the Mauser factory for the Swedish Army before production started at the Carl Gustaf factory. This series was the last and final version of the Model 1896 sniper rifle that was still in use until after WWII; however, it was held in war reserve until the 1970/80s. The receiver is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF" over "A/N 1899". The rifle is fitted with the late pattern improved short side rail with the correct two alignment pins and the three base screws. The front edge of the base has the late provisions of the front stop and adjustment screw only used on the very late production/upgraded sniper rifles. The short side rail pattern mount is stamped serial number (22784), and it is fitted with its matching short side rail scope mount. The mount is fitted with the last upgraded pattern German Ajacks 4X scope. The base of the elevation knob is marked with the small "Swedish Crown Proof/Nr. 2290/1942B", and the obverse is marked "AJACKS 4X90". The elevation dial is also fitted with the correct sniper scope range scale on top that is graduated "1-8" (100-800 meters). The scope is complete with a set of original leather lens caps. The rifle has the standard military style blade front sight, and the rear sight is the later pattern adjustable rear diopter sight. All the parts are blued to include the bolt, and it is fitted the full length military stock and short handguard. The right side of the buttstock has the small brass bore condition plate. It is complete with an original Swedish leather sling, cleaning rod, and front sight cover.

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 90% plus of the refinished blued finish overall showing general light wear and blue loss overall associated with field use. The refurbished hardwood/beech stock and handguard set are all in very good condition with minor handling marks overall with signs of light sanding on the underside of the stock. The scope and mount are all in fine condition with 90% plus of the blue finish with light wear on the edges and high spots with nice clear optics. Mechanically excellent.
