Description:

This is a fine representative example of a very rare late WWII German STG-44 assault rifle that was produced in 1945. This was the final version of the vaunted early development efforts that started with the MKb42 that proceeded through the MP43/44 series of German assault rifles into this version. It is stamped on the left side of the magazine well with the "8758y/45" with "StG 44" marking on the left rear side of the receiver. The underside of the receiver in both the front and rear portion areas is stamped with "fxo" indicating manufacture at the C. G. Haenel factory in Suhl. The left side of the trigger housing is stamped with only a single "WaA21" acceptance proof for the Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik A.G., who made the stamping for the trigger housing. The rear of the trigger housing and the side of the operating rod are both correctly serial numbered "8758y" (matching) while the bolt is numbered "5002" on top. The operating rod front exposed section of the barrel has a single "Eagle/210" Waffenamt manufacturer's proof. It is fitted with a late war laminated butt stock and a set of late war walnut grip panels. It has the late war gray/green phosphate finish, a blued barrel, the bolt and bolt carrier assembly in the white, and blued internal trigger group parts. These rifles were the first true production assault rifle ever manufactured in the world, as they use the intermediate length cartridge 7.92x33mm Kurz, which provided the German soldier with a greater (200-600 meters) effective range than the standard 9mm Luger cartridge in the MP40s with less weight than the standard 7.92 Mauser (8mm) cartridge. The MP44/StGs are a marvel of wartime expedient manufacturing techniques using a combination of stamped sheet metal parts welded and pinned together with rough forgings, using a minimum of machined components. It is complete with one original MP44 marked magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the late war gray/green phosphate finish overall with some light handling marks and scratches on the sides from handling and use over the years. The laminated stock is also in very fine condition with its nice original wartime finish showing light handling marks overall. As noted, it has matching numbers on the various parts except for the bolt, and the barrel cross pin has been removed/reinstalled at some point which may indicate that the barrel is a correct replacement. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
