Description:

This is a beautiful example of an early "two-digit" serial number (12) Ludwig Loewe & Co. Prototype Model 1893 Borchardt pistol set. This set includes the combination walnut shoulder stock with black leather holster, two magazines, combination cleaning rod and hold open device, leather sling, silver plated oiler with leather case and a brass cleaning rod with wooden handle. The pistol and all the accessories are all stored in a beautiful custom oak display case that has a highly figured lid that features a large brass escutcheon plate on top that is engraved with the three intertwined initials of "L.L.C." which probably stands for "Ludwig Loewe & Co." There is also a small brass escutcheon plate inside the case with the same exact style of engraved initials. This specific pistol (serial number 12) is the lowest Borchardt pistol we have ever offered or seen offered for sale! It is totally void of any factory markings and is only serial numbered on the underside of the frame grip, the rear frame lug, the back sides of each grip panel and on the underside of the barrel. There are also no chamber or receiver marking, nor does it have the German patent applied number on the side of the frame, and all three magazines are unnumbered. The barrel and breechblock also do not carry any standard German acceptance or firing proofs. It is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips that are both stamped with a large serial number "12" on the back sides with the right side also carved with and intertwined "LWS."

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear overall with thinning on the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 90% of their straw colors overall. The walnut shoulder stock is also in very fine condition with nice clear markings on the underside edge showing only minor handling marks. The leather holster is in good condition with tight stitching and has lost all of the outer cover of the leather. The various other accessories are all in very fine condition. The custom made oak case is also in near mint condition with a beautiful color overall with most of its varnish showing only minor handling marks and scratches on the sides, with a two small pressure dents on the upper right side of the lid. Truly a very interesting and certainly early prototype Borchardt Model 1893 semi-automatic pistol.
