Devoid of maker's marks, this Gewehr 98 Serviceman's Target pattern rifle bears a number of "crown" and "crown/N" proofs, commercial-style "2,75 gr.B.P./Stm.C" marking on the left receiver ring, and "Gew.98" on the sidewall. The sight is the old "ski ramp" style, with no evidence of conversion from the "Patrone 88" round ball cartridge to the later standard "S Patrone" Spitzer-tip round. A recurring number "13" is seen on multiple small components, though not the barrel, receiver or bolt, and others are marked "A" and/or "Z". Smooth pistol grip stock, with a flat steel buttplate.

Very good with 50% of the blue finish, showing a mixed gray patina on the rear sight base and receiver, mixed brown on the barrel bands, floor plate and trigger guard, and mild handling marks and spotting overall. The revarnished stock shows a number of light scratches and dents. Mechanically fine.
