This is an excellent example of an original pre-war Colt Model 1911A1 Super Match semi-automatic pistol manufactured in mid 1939. The Colt factory letter that accompanies this pistol is dated April 2001 and verifies it as a 1-piece shipment in June 1939 to Abercrombie & Fitch Company in New York. These .38 Super Match pistols were manufactured concurrently with the standard Colt 38 Supers, except they featured a deluxe, hand honed action, checkered match trigger with a hand polished super smooth trigger pull. Additionally, they received a high polished Colt factory blued finish with all checkered walnut grip panels. Approximately 5,000 of these special higher grade target pistols were produced in total. The right side of the matching serialized slide is marked "SUPER MATCH/COLT SUPER 38/AUTOMATIC" followed by the Rampant Colt motif. The opposite side of the slide has Colt's address markings above their 1897-1913 patent dates. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked with a capital letter "T" over the Colt "VP" (verified proof) inside a small triangle. The right side is marked "80". It has the wide, high target type factory front sight and the factory installed fixed rear sight. It is fitted with the original Colt blued Super 38 barrel that is marked on the left side: "COLT SUPER 38 AUTO MATCH" with the circled "MB" match barrel markings on the side of the barrel lug. It has the polished chamber, checkered slide lock, thumb safety, and arched mainspring housing, along with the standard Colt wide spur, checkered hammer. It is complete with one all-blued magazine marked "COLT SUPER/38 AUTO" on the base plate. It comes with one extra original Colt marked 38 Super magazine and a very nice open top leather holster manufactured by Abercrombie & Fitch and so stamped on the back side.

Excellent with 98% plus of the original high polish blued finish overall with just a hint of holster edge wear visible on the front end of the slide and the side of the trigger where it has been hand cycled/dry fired. The grips are in excellent condition with a nice matching dark walnut color overall with sharp distinct checkering on both sides with two very small, light pressure dents on the right side. Mechanically excellent. The holster is in very fine condition with a nice medium color with tight, latigo stitching around the edge. A really super high condition Colt .38 Super Match pistol.
