Offered here are two S&W Model 29-2 Revolvers highly embellished by Master Engraver Alvin White for then Major (later colonel) Timoor Daghistani (b. 1948) of the Royal Jordanian Tank Corps and former brother-in-law of the late King Hussein of Jordan. He went on to serve as Director of Training Armoured Corps and, after retiring from the military, served as the Jordanian ambassador to Spain from 1994 to 1999 and to the United Kingdom starting in 1999. He is the son of Major General Ghazi al-Daghistani (1912-1966), the former aide-de-camp to the last king of Iraq, King Faisal II, who was imprisoned after the fall of the Iraqi monarchy in 1958 and later released in 1960 to spend the rest of his life peacefully living in England. In 1970, Daghistani married the only daughter of King Talal of Jordan, Princess Basma bint Talal, and the couple had two children before the marriage ended in divorce in the late 1970s. He later remarried. The accompanying R.L. Wilson letter confirms the revolvers as masterpieces by Alvin White for Timoor Daghistani and the case was made by noted bookbinder Arno Werner. Daghistani's initials are inlaid in 18 karat gold on the left side of the frames, and an aggressive 18 karat relief gold scorpion, Daghistani's logo, is on the left side of the barrels ahead of the S&W marking. "The scorpion motifs," wrote Wilson, "stand amongst the most bold and superb of gold inlays done by Alvin White in his long and distinguished career." "The scrollwork is inspired by the traditional artistic flavor of the Middle East," noted Wilson. White has signed his work on the left side of the frames under the grip panel. A large high relief 18 karat scorpion sits atop a foliate scroll engraved 2 inch x 3 3/8 inch sterling silver plaque signed by White is attached to the lid of the leather bound case accented with gold tooling. The French recessed case is lined with velvet. Consignor research is included.

Rating Definition:

Near new as professionally embellished by noted Master Engraver Alvin White, showing the slightest handing marks and a cylinder drag line visible only under very close inspection. The grips are near mint with highly attractive color. Mechanically excellent. The case is excellent showing minimal wear.
