Manufactured in 1961 with standard markings and features except for the smoothbore barrel, which is documented with a letter from Winchester Western Division. The letter states that the rifle appears to have been delivered with an unrifled barrel due to a mistake at the factory and requests that it be returned for examination and replacement with a correct barrel. The consignor notes that this is likely the only smoothbore Winchester Model 88 ever made, though it was made inadvertently. Includes the factory letter requesting the return of the rifle for barrel replacement.

Excellent, retains 98% plus original finish with a few light handling marks. The stock is very fine with some scattered light-minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
