Manufactured in 1955 by James C. Hartley, the Director of Research at the Winchester Arms Company. Hartley and this rifle were featured in a December 15th, 1974 Hartford Courant newspaper article. This rifle is a hybrid Model 1894/64 and features a 20 inch barrel with a Model 64 style ramped hooded beaded blade front sight, a rear sight filler block, and a rear receiver mounted Lyman 56 adjustable peep sight. Standard left rear barrel markings and Winchester oval proof on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. Equipped with a two-thirds length magazine. Mounted on a Model 64 Deluxe style checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap, sling swivel studs, and a checkered steel shotgun buttplate.

Very fine as custom built by Winchester research director with 95% plus of the original blue finish with slight muzzle wear, minor brown speckling on the receiver and slight handling marks. The markings are clear. The wood is very fine with minor scattered scratches and dings and a small chip absent on the left rear forearm. The checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent.
