Description:

Manufactured in 1911, this an example of a Model 1892 Saddle Ring "Trapper" carbine with a rare 17 inch barrel. The carbine is accompanied by a 3 page handwritten letter by noted Winchester expert and author George Madis who states that after carefully examining this carbine he has found it to be "all original as made by Winchester in 1911". The letter also describes the various markings and features of the carbine. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the standard two line address/patent date ahead of the rear sight and "32 W.C.F." at the breech and the Winchester oval proof marked on the top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The three line model, maker, trade mark information is marked on the upper tang, and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. Pinned blade front and adjustable folding ladder rear sights, full magazine, saddle ring and staple mounted on the left side of the receiver and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with carbine buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 50% original faded blue finish remaining concentrated on the barrel and magazine tube, which also show some scattered minor oxidation. The receiver has a smooth mottled brown patina. The wood is very good with some scattered minor dents, dings, scratches and a couple of minor gouges on the stock. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. A great addition to any Winchester Trapper collection.
