The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a round barrel in .40-82 caliber and plain trigger when received in the warehouse on June 14, 1894, and shipped on October 3, 1896, with 19 other Model 1886s. Dovetailed blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights on a barrel marked with the two-line address and "40-82 WCF." The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1886," and the lower tang has the patent date marking and serial number. Mounted on a smooth forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with solid crescent buttplate.

Very fine. The barrel, magazine, loading gate, and bolt retain 80% original blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown. There are some tool-like markings on the magazine. The remaining surfaces retain 70% plus vivid original case colors. The slightly undersize lightly sanded, refinished buttstock wood is very good showing some minor handling evidence and retaining most of the finish. The forend is fine. Mechanically excellent.
