Description:

The Model 1852 carbines were manufactured by Robbins & Lawrence of Windsor, Vermont, for Sharps before production shifted to the very similar Model 1853. The vast majority of these carbines were .52 caliber, but this example is rebored to .56 and has three groove rifling by unknown party. Frank Sellers on page 46 of "Sharps Firearms" lists only 2 of the 4,997 in 26 bore (roughly .56 caliber) and also notes they were equipped with "British" sights. (We are not claiming this to be the aforementioned type). This example has the standard brass blade front and squirrel ear rear sights and the standard markings. Some of these early Sharps no doubt saw action in the violent clashes of the antebellum era and on the battlefields of the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Fair. It has a mix of artificial brown and cold blue along the barrel and front of the action, strong original case colors on the lock plate around the hammer, smooth gray and brown patina on most of the balance, some mild pitting, attractive aged patina on the brass, and general handling and storage marks. The forearm has a crack/repair above the spring on the right and minor wear. The somewhat undersized buttstock has some discreet repairs on the left side of the wrist and some light dings and scratches. Part of the primer mechanism has been replaced, but the carbine is mechanically fine.
