The top of the receiver is marked "PATENT No 79". "ALEXR HENRY" is in a banner on the lock. Comes in a leather and oak case with brass corner protectors and leather straps and handle. "Sir John Mc Neill" is embossed in black on the lid, and it has red felt lining with an Alexander Henry label affixed to the inside of the lid. In the case is a one piece wooden cleaning rod and a wooden handled nipple wrench. A Sir John McNeill GCB PC FRSE FRAS (1795-1883) was an Edinburgh educated Scottish surgeon and diplomat; however, it is unknown if it is the same person whose name is embossed on the lid.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 30% original blue finish remaining on the barrel with some thinning, normal handling wear and a few minor scratches. Traces of original fading case colors remain on the receiver, hammer, lock and lever with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The refinished wood is fine with most of the finish remaining and showing a few minor dents and scratches and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The case is good with some moderate edge wear and numerous marks on the exterior, one side of the handle torn away, and some wear, tear and stains on the interior lining.
