Description:

Manufactured c. 1906. The brass plaque on the left side of the buttstock between the traditional hooked buttplate and oversized Tyrolean cheekpiece is inscribed: "Ehrenpreis/fur das/23. Rhein. Bundesschiessen/Gestiftet von Eugen Pastor/iF.Gebruder Damm." (indicates an honorary prize for the 23rd Rhine Federal Shoot donated by Eugene Paster). The engraving on the action includes a horned beast's face on the right and a green man type design on the left surrounded by traditional German engraving. (perhaps representing Satan and God or more broadly evil and good). The rifle has an adjustable winged front sight with ramp, two inlaid bands at the breech, replacement diopter rear sight with integral base, double set triggers, matching serial numbers, "BUG" proofs, and checkered stock and forearm. Includes a leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 75% brown and original casehardened finish, crisp checkering and engraving, some small chips and scratches on the refinished wood, some filler near the toe, and chips on the thumb rest. Mechanically fine.
