Description:

This pistol was manufactured around the early 19th century at the height of the evolution of flintlock firearms and has advanced features, including recessed patent breech with gold bands and silver liners, guttered "waterproof" pans, sculpted frizzens, frizzen spring rollers, mainspring stirrup, sliding safeties, etc. The Damascus twist barrels have a flat top rib with a blade front sight and "Rigby Dublin." The notch rear sight is on the breech plug. The locks are marked "Rigby." The furniture has martial, floral, and scroll engraving. The saw handle style stock compensates nicely for the weight of the barrels and points very naturally. The wedge escutcheons and initial plate are silver. The latter has a heraldic crest of a coronet suspended over a demi-lion rampant with a six-pointed star between its paws over a torso. A similar crest on a piece of silver c.1902 was attributed to the Dillon family of Ireland who were the barons of Lismullen when the pistol was manufactured. A "WI2220" collection type marking is stamped on the left side of the stock at the edge of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fine with attractive Damascus patterns along the barrels, period refurbished case colors mixed with mostly gray patina on the locks and breech, aged patina on the silver, and light gray and brown patina on the remaining furniture. The stock is also fine overall and has crisp checkering and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
