Description:

Approximately 47,115 of these rifle-muskets were manufactured at Springfield in 1857-1861. This example has the standard markings and sight and is a transitional piece with the iron forend tip introduced in 1859 but not the patch box also introduced that year.

Rating Definition:

Very Fine with mostly bright polished surfaces, buff marks, patches of gray and brown patina, minor pitting on the top of barrel, and light oil staining. The otherwise fine stock has a reglued hairline crack running from the tail of the lock up around to the barrel tang and otherwise smooth oiled finish and limited scattered minor dents and scrapes.
