Description:

Around 6,500 conversion revolvers were manufactured by Colt in 1873-1875 in .38 rimfire and centerfire with ejectors on the right side, loading gates, and a mix of converted Police and Pocket Navy components. This one is particularly unusual in that it has a notch rear sight inserted in the breech plate that the firing pin attached to the hammer passes through, "C" over the Rampant Colt emblem on the upper left side of the back strap, and a "C" marked in the hammer well. It was sent to England as shown by the British proof and view marks and the case label. The rear sight and hammer appear to be alterations, and the revolver was originally manufactured as a .38 rimfire. It has a brass cone front sight, round Police model style barrel fitted with an ejector, Pocket Navy style cylinder, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, "36 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard, assembly/conversion number "4026" on the loading gate, and matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, back strap, and grip. The case contains a large cartridge block filled with Kynoch .380 ammunition, an oiler, key, L-shaped combination tool, bore rod, and a few patches.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% of the lightly fading original case colors, 60% original blue mostly concentrated on the barrel and stepped down section of the cylinder, mostly light gray and brown patina where the blue finish has faded, some slight oxidation, patches of original silver plating at the front of the trigger guard, aged patinas on the silver and brass, and scattered scratches. The front sight is modified as is the rear sight with refinish visible in those areas. The grip is very fine with minor edge wear, a few strike marks, and very slight flake at the right side of the toe. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are fine with moderate storage wear and very good oil stained label.
