Description:

Around 2,200 of these Ballards were manufactured c. 1865-1866 using the dual ignition system (can use rimfire or percussion caps) by R. Ball & Co. Of those, only 200 are estimated to have been carbines. It has a blade front sight, two leaf rear sight, standard Ballard and Merwin & Bray markings on the sides of the action, "No. 44" and matching serial numbers on top at the breech, and smooth stock and forearm.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with mottled gray and brown patina, light pitting/oxidation, general marks and scratches, and refinished wood. The forearm has a repaired sliver on the upper right edge and some chips. Mechanically excellent.
