Description:

Only an estimated 1,376 Trapdoor 20 gauge "forager" shotguns were manufactured in the early 1880s. They were designed for 20 gauge brass shotgun shells and were used by hunters and scouts primarily at western outposts in the late 19th century. Some were even used into the very early 20th century. It has the correct two-click tumbler, special extractor, "1881" in italics on top of the Model 1879 style breechblock, carbine buttplate and trigger guard, smooth trigger, and an "1882" dated cartouche. In place of the usual "P" stamp by the trigger guard is a small "HH" stamp.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with 25% of faded original finish mixed with brown patina, replaced front sight bead, minor scratches and marks, and mild oxidation. The stock is also very good and has a crisp cartouche, chips absent by the upper tang, long horizontal sliver absent below the lock, and various scratches dings, and minor flakes. Mechanically fine.
