Description:

This is a very fine example of a late production, small ring, ten shot, Mauser Model 1896 Broomhandle pistol with very desirable Von Lengerke & Detmold frame markings. This pistol still retains the slotted back strap area on the frame for the combination wooden shoulder stock/holster which was eliminated on most of these early pistols. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK, MAUSER OBERNDORF, A/N" and the right rear side of the frame is marked with "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.NECKAR". The left, center frame panel is marked "VON LENGERKE/& DETMOLD/NEW YORK". The left side of the chamber is stamped with a "double Crown/U" proof mark along with the serial number, (40407). The right side of the chamber area has the early Mauser antlered proof mark. As noted it has the bolo style frame and barrel with a fixed front sight and an adjustable rear sight that is graduated "100"-"1000" meters. The underside of the pistol butt still retains the stud and metal lanyard ring.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% of the faded original blue finish still reaming with wear visible overall. Blue loss is visible on the front of the frame rails, rear grip strap, muzzle area and the lower edges of the magazine well/floor plate. The upper rear area of the back strap also shows numerous scattered small minute dings/dents in the metal surfaces. The grips are in very good with nice floral pattern on the sides with only light wear across the designs. Mechanically excellent.
