Description:

Manufactured by Winchester in the last production run in World War II. Blade front and adjustable peep rear sights with locking bar, with an unmarked barrel, Winchester "D28287-1W.R.A." bolt, trigger guard, "D28290-W.R.A." trigger housing, "C46008-1W.R.A." hammer and "D35382-W.R.A." operating rod, and the right front receiver leg marked "D28291WIN-13". Smooth unmarked (does not appear to ever being inspected) pistol grip stock, with a checkered steel buttplate. The "WIN-13" marking is particular to receivers originally produced in 1943 but not completed or assembled until the end of production in 1945. An estimated 30,000 were manufactured and accepted by the Army to fulfill the contract. This example could possibly have never been delivered to the military as it is uninspected. This is noted on pages 83-84 of "Complete Guide to the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine" in which its author speculates that these uninspected rifles were factory leftovers after the military contract was cancelled.

Rating Definition:

Very excellent with 98% plus original parkerization, showing some bright cycling and minor high point wear. Some pitting is present on the receiver below the wood line. The stock is also excellent, with some light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
