Description:

This is an excellent example of an early WWII Winchester Model 97 Riot shotgun that falls into the noted serial number range for WWII shotguns (E910000 to E960000), which is fitted with a U.S. inspected/cartouched buttstock. The left side of the 20 inch barrel is marked "MODEL 97-WINCHESTER-12 GA", followed by "2 3/4 CHAM./CYL." with the two line address/patent marking on the right. The receiver and barrel do not have the standard U.S. and Ordnance Shell and Flame markings, however the left side of the buttstock is correctly stamped with the large (early style) boxed "WRA/RS" final acceptance cartouche. It is not fitted with the standard sling swivels, which may indicated it was original a commercial riot shotgun that was delivered under an early Government contract. It also has a matching grooved walnut pump handle. The stock is fitted with a black plastic checkered Winchester marked buttplate. Length of pull is 13 1/2 inches.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original Winchester factory blued finish overall showing only light wear on the front end of the magazine tube and top edges of the slide bar. The pump handle and buttstock are both in excellent plus condition with no handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A really outstanding early Winchester Model 97 riot shotgun.
