Description:

The General Officers, M15 pistols were produced by Rock Island Arsenal beginning in 1973 and continued until approximately 1985 when the Army adopted the Beretta M9, GO pistol. The General Officers pistols that were produced at RIA were all hand fitted with a special selection of unique parts built to NM standards and used original M1911A1 frames. This specific example, however, is not one of those; instead, it is a custom assembled pistol produced with a Colt WWI frame assembled with a group of original M15 GO pistol parts. The slide and barrel group as noted are original and correctly marked on the left side with "General Officer's Model/RIA". The slide is fitted with the correct style raised front and rear sight set and a shortened GI barrel that has been fitted with a NM marked barrel bushing. It is correctly fitted with a long, serrated trigger and narrow hammer. The frame has the correct style serrated front grip strap with the serrated, arched mainspring with the vertical cuts on the lower half. It is fitted with a set of post-war brown plastic replacement grips, and it is complete with one unmarked all blued magazine. It has a highly polished blued finish overall, with chrome plated barrel. It appears that it was assembled/manufactured by one of the RIA employees as a personal pistol in the style of a General Officer's M15 pistol.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as assembled with 99% of the custom refurbished blue finish overall showing only limited test firing. The grips are excellent. The consignor stated that it was assembled on a personal basis for one of the RIA deputy post commanders; however, there is no documentation to verify that. It is very plausible due to the quality of the pistol.
