General Earle G. Wheeler (1908-1975) served in the United States Army from 1932 to 1970. He served as a mathematics instructor at West Point, Chief of Staff for the 63rd Infantry Division, artillery instructor at Fort Sill, and multiple senior staff positions before being appointed Chief of Staff of the United States Army, and later Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, a position he filled until 1970, making him the longest serving chairman in United States history. Standard fixed blade and notch sights, two-line Fabrique Nationale address on left side of slide, matching serial numbers on the right side of the barrel, slide and frame, standard Belgian proofs, serrated ring hammer, and finely checkered grips with diamond patterns around the screws. The upper left side of the slide is inscribed "General d'Armee Earle G. Wheeler - 1968" in fancy gold inlaid script. With fitted leather case with red velvet interior, extra magazine, and cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 98% plus bright original blue finish remains with some scattered of light "pin-point" spotting visible on the front grip strap and trigger guard with light handling marks on the balance. The grips are also excellent with crisp checkering and some very small dings. Mechanically excellent. Case is fine with visible edge wear and scuffs on the exterior.
