Manufactured in the late 19th century. The barrel has a triangular prism shaped front sight, three leaf express rear sights with platinum sight lines and graduations for 50, 100, and 200 yards; textured upper flat, groove cut in the top at the breech for point blank sighting, "MANTON & CO GUNMAKERS TO H.R.H. THE" on the upper left flat, "DUKE OF EDINBURGH. K.G. LONDON & CALCUTTA" on the upper right, "5004" ahead of the forearm lug and "5617" (serial number) and a Birmingham proof behind it, and a group of proofs on the lower left. The forearm and lower tang also have the matching serial number. The rotary under-lever action and most of the furniture have tight English scroll engraving. The lock also has "MANTON & CO." The chamber length is approximately 3 1/4 inches. Length of pull is 14 3/8 inches, and the weight is 16 lbs. 11 oz.

Fair with mostly brown patina, some faint original case colors, minor oxidation and isolated pitting, mild edge wear, repaired crack in the lower tang, and scattered minor marks and scratches. The replacement wood is very good and has crisp checkering, a few small dings and scratches, and some epoxy and bedding material. Mechanically fine.
