Description:

This rifle is the last London bench-made bolt magazine Rigby rifle made by J. Roberts & Son and is modelled on the 1929 rifle made for the Raja of Dunlod which is retained in the company collection. The stock of this special rifle is made from exhibition grade French walnut and a new Mauser square bridge magnum action was used. With blacked barrel with ring mounted forward sling mounting eye and signed "J. RIGBY & CO. LONDON. ENGLAND". Block mounted bead front sight with matted ramp and flip up moon sight. Short matted quarter rib with matted rear sight of one fixed and two folding leaves graduated from "50" to "150" yards, the fixed leaf with gold inlaid pointer and each folding leaf with gold inlaid center line. Blacked receiver engraved "RIGBY'S SPECIAL .416 BORE FOR BIG GAME" on the receiver ring and matted rear square bridge. Bolt with blued extractor, blacked cocking piece with serrated flag safety with gold inlaid "SAFE". Blacked magazine floor plate and trigger guard, the last with gold inlaid serial number, and casehardened pistol grip cap with hinged trap cover. Finely figured 14 3/4 inch pistol grip stock including 3/4 inch rubber recoil pad, and checkered grip and forearm. The underside of the butt inset with a vacant silver escutcheon and with the rear sling mounting eye. Weight 10 lbs. 1 oz. In original brass cornered canvas full length rifle case lined in dark blue baize, the lid with John Rigby & Co. trade label and instructions for cleaning. The case containing two front sight tunnel covers, brown leather pouch with cleaning accessories, brown leather sling, cleaning rod, horn handled turnscrew, two brass Rigby containers for cleaning fluid and Rangoon oil, a box of patches and the case key.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, in virtually unfired condition. The underside of the barrel is marked with importers details and is struck with a small nitro proof mark at the muzzle. Retaining nearly all its original blacked finish with very minor storage markings and some scratches to the sides of the front sight block from the removal of a tunnel cover. Blacked receiver retaining nearly all its blacked finish with very slight storage rubbing to the edges of the square bridge and some rubbing to the bluing on the extractor. The stock with minor storage markings, checkering remains factory sharp. The case in little used condition, the exterior with storage scratches to the lid, some rubbing to the leather work, and some scratches to the brass corners.
