Manufactured in 1941 during the tenure of Robert Sears as inspector, this pistol was reportedly custom embellished by Jack Klampfer in 1965. Over 90% of the surface is covered with engraving, with an emphasis on scroll designs with a textured background, along with some straight line border work and textured panels on the trigger guard and underside of the slide. Several small components have been gold washed, and the grips are smooth mother of pearl with cut in sunbursts around the top screws, forest scenes at the bottom, and Rampant Colt motifs in the center. The slide is numbered to match the frame, with "RS" stamps on the top and left and the engraver's signature on the left side beneath the grip, full blue "R" marked magazine, and a "COLT 45 AUTO" barrel with large "G" inspection mark. Very fine as custom embellished, with 95% of the quality blue finish, showing some light handling marks and edge wear. A few spots of rust are present, mostly visible on the rear of the slide and on the hammer. Some large chips are absent from the top of the left panel; otherwise, the grips are fine, showing a few areas of aged color and fine detail overall. Mechanically excellent.
