Description:

These rifles were the standard British sniper rifles developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s. The receiver side wall is marked "No. 4 MK I (T)", and the butt socket marked "M47C/1944/ENGLAND/N33949/TR". It comes with an original 1944 dated sniper scope that is marked on the side of the tube: "TEL.STG.No 32 MKI/Ww/1944/O.S.466A/broad arrow proof". The mounting bracket is stamped with the maker's mark of "N92" and is serial number on the upper left sides with "U35057", the rings are numbered "A53" and "A54" on the right side. It has the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight with the stamped/milled components with its original matching numbered bolt assembly, with the bolt head is stamped with a "0" indicating its new. It has the correct wartime semi-pistol grip walnut stock with the standard proofmarks, that is stamped with its matching serial number (N33949) on the forestock and "S51" on behind the pistol grip area, indicating conversion by Holland & Holland. Interestingly the top of the wrist does not have any scope serial number indicating that this rifle was never issued. The buttstock is fitted with a wartime pot metal buttplate with butt trap compartment and the correct screw-on cheekpiece. The scope is complete with an original British issue leather lens caps that are correctly British proofed. Complete with an original WWII issue, green wooden storage/shipping container that is marked: "Chest No 15 MkI/Rifle No.4 MkI/(T. LESS TELESCOPE), and the end label on the box is correctly numbered to match the rifle. This last notation is very unusual as these were usually fitted with a scope by Holland & Holland; however, this notation correctly corresponds to the fact that the buttstock wrist does not have any scope serial number. Complete with a commercial leather sling. Complete with commerical leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% of the wartime phosphate under black painted type finish overall showing no wear with dried grease around the edges of the receiver and trigger guard. The wood components are all in excellent condition with nice clear proofs and markings with only some very minor handling marks on the sides. The scope and mount are also in excellent condition with 98% of its wartime blue/black finish overall with some minor surface rust visible on the tube. The optics are nice and clear. The storage box is in very good condition with 80% of the green exterior paint with clear markings, The underside (bottom) does show heavy paint loss with some cracking and from moving around. A very unusual original unissued British No. 4 MkI (T) sniper rifle with an original WWII scope.
