Description:

This is an excellent example of a very desirable 1902 Luger carbine that is complete with an original (unnumbered) walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were an attempt by DWM to a produce a lightweight rifle substitute to compete with the Mauser Broomhandle carbines. There were a total of 2,500 Luger carbines produced in two serial number blocks with this specific pistol being in the second block of which only 1,100 total were made. They all have a beautiful rust blued finish and straw color smaller parts. The unique features of these pistols are: a 11 3/4 inch barrel, short forend that housed a small spring accelerator mechanism, the long frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles, and recessed/flat breech bolt. These were also fitted with the early style three position rear sight (adjustable from 100-300 meters) mounted on top of the barrel in front of the receiver and a bead front sight mounted on a ramp on top of the barrel. The top of the chamber is blank, and the front toggle has the DWM logo for "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken". The full serial number (24232) is correctly marked on the frame extension and the underside of the barrel, and the last two (or three) digits of the serial number are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, inside the forend, grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, toggle assembly. The grip panels are unnumbered. The pistol stock is completely original and has a black horn buttplate, lower sling swivel, and an original unnumbered attaching iron. The magazine has a nickel plated body with the correct unnumbered/marked wood base.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original blue finish overall showing only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The smaller parts retain 90% of their original straw colors. The grips are also excellent with nice distinct checkering on both sides and only very minor handing marks. The stock and forend are both excellent with a nice honey colored oil finish, very fine checkering, and show only minor handling marks in a few places. A truly exceptional, high condition DWM Model 1902 Luger Carbine.
