Description:

This is a very fine example of an early production 1914 Dated Erfurt Artillery Luger pistol. The chamber area is dated "1914" (desirable first year production!) with the front toggle stamped with the "Crown/ERFURT" marking. The barrel extension has the "Crown/Gothic letter" proofs and Imperial Eagle firing proof, with the firing proof and "Crown/script letter" proofs, also repeated on the sides of the breechblock and rear end of the barrel. Many of the various smaller parts are also stamped with the small Erfurt proofs that consist of either a "Crown/RC" or a single "Crown/Gothic letter" proofmark. This example is fitted with the correct Artillery tangent rear sight graduated to 1-8 (100-800 meters), and both sights are fitted with the fine-tune adjustments. This Luger is complete with one nickel plated, wooden base magazine that is stamped on the base with a double "Crown/Script letter" proof and "4330".

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the slightly faded original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear, blue loss on the side plate hump, muzzle, and front frame rails; and the center section of the barrel shows considerable light, very small spotting mixed with some light scratches. The smaller parts retain 50% of their original straw colors overall. The grips are very fine overall with nice distinct checkering with just very minor handling marks and nicks in a couple areas. Mechanically excellent.
