Description:

Manufactured in limited numbers (estimated at less than 100) by the Union Fire Arms Company, the Reifgraber was originally developed based on patents held by Joseph Joachim Reifgraber, a late 19th/early 20th century publisher who also invented a number of items, including advanced teletype machines. Fixed sights, with "UNION FIREARMS CO./TOLEDO. O. RIEFGRABER(sic) PAT." on the left side of the frame and "S. & W./32/CAL." on the right. "74" stamped on top, forward of sight groove. Fitted with a back strap grip safety, manual safety, takedown lever, checkered grips and a matching numbered magazine. The pistol has an overall nitre blue finish with checkered hard rubber grips. A similar example is pictured on page 288 of "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920" by Meadows, which includes a section discussing Reifgraber's attempts to attract military attention to the pistol.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 97% plus bright original niter blue finish remains with moderate edge and high point wear, surface scratches, small nicks and light spotting. The grips are also excellent with handling marks overall. Mechanically excellent. Writer knows of no better example.
