The letter indicates it was part of a 5 gun shipment in this configuration (grips not listed) sent to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. in Chicago on September 23, 1908. It has standard markings and features other than the replaced grips (numbered "328704"). The box has the matching serial number in pencil on the bottom, separate stickers for "4 1/2" and ".41" on the end label, and reprinted papers. The .41 caliber Army Special is seldom seen equipped with a 4 1/2 inch barrel.

Very good overall with 85-90% original blue finish, most of the fading on the grip straps, some light spotting, minor marks and scratches, and crisp octagon. Mechanically excellent. The box is fair and has some repairs, flaking, and general storage wear.
