Manufactured in 1894, the first year of production according to Madis' serial number range. Dovetailed blade and elevation adjustable sights on a barrel stamped with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "38-55" at the breech. The upper tang is stamped with the three-line model/patent date information. Non-factory period added sling swivels are installed. Mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

Very fine, retaining 70% plus original blue finish with the balance thinning to a brown. 40% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is fine with a missing sliver near the upper right frame juncture, a name hand marked on the buttstock, and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
