Manufactured in 1903 and subsequently engraved and modified later in the 20th century (after 1930) with a cattle brand motif with a punch dot background covering 95% of the revolver. The brands are well-executed in the typical western style with the recognizable "XIT" and many other Texas brands with intermixed floral scroll designs. The only surfaces not covered are the front grip strap, small parts, the inside area of the trigger guard, and the cylinder flutes. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 38 SPECIAL." The one-line address is on the right side, and the left side of the frame is marked with the two-line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "5233". Gold finished barrel, cylinder, back strap and frame and nickel finish on the remaining metal surfaces. Fitted with silver medallion grips, smooth on the left side and with a relief carved steer head with red stone eyes on the right side.

Very good as custom modified (barrel and cylinder are post-war replacements), embellished, and refinished. Most of the gold finish remains showing some scattered thinning and some high point wear. Nearly all of the nickel finish remains. The grips are fine with a number of hairline age cracks and a mellow patina. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is excellent.
