Description:

This is a fine original example of a black powder Colt Single Action Army revolver manufactured in 1884. Standard barrel and left side frame marking and "45 CAL." on the left front of the trigger guard bow. Matching serial numbers on the cylinder, barrel, trigger guard, and back strap, "5170" assembly number visible on the loading gate. Black powder frame, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened frame and hammer, and fitted with a smooth one piece varnished walnut grip. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, blue finish, with grips and barrel length as "Not Listed" (the letter notes that 7 1/2 inch barrels were standard issue for the time period) and that it was shipped as 1 of 50 to Hartley and Graham in New York City on July 18, 1884.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% original blue finish remaining on the barrel, 70% original blue finish in the cylinder flutes, on the top of the back strap and most of the original blue finish remaining in the area of the trigger guard. The balance is a smooth mottled gray patina. 40% original case colors remain on the frame mixed with smooth gray patina. The very fine grip retains 70% of the original varnish and shows some lower edge wear and some scattered minor dents and dings. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
