Manufactured in 1887, the first year Colt manufactured the Lightning small frame slide action rifle. The rifle is equipped with dovetailed blade front and notch rear sights. The barrel has the two-line address/patent marking on the top flat and "22 Cal." on the upper left flat. The left side of the receiver has the Rampant Colt. The forearm is checkered, and the straight grip stock has a checkered Rampant Colt embossed hard rubber buttplate and a monogram carved on the left side.

Very fine. The rifle retains 75% plus bright original high polish blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. There are a couple patches of light pitting on the receiver. The buttplate has a large chip missing at the toe. The wood is fine with custom carving (see above), some scattered minor handling marks and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
