Description:

The only visible markings are a "V" stamped just above the trigger. The smoothbore barrel is inside a bamboo sleeve, which together make up the shaft of the cane. The L-shaped handle unscrews to allow insertion of an approximately .50 caliber/14 mm centerfire cartridge. The grip portion of the handle is made up of a high relief carved ram's head. There is a brass ferrule/muzzle on the bottom of the cane to protect the muzzle. Canes such as these were highly prized amongst 19th century gentleman for protection and as curiosities. The overall length is 32 3/8 inches.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing mostly a bright grey patina on the iron with some scattered patches of brown patina and some light pitting and an attractive antique patina on the brass. The bamboo barrel sleeve is fine with some mild wear and a few minor cracks. The grip is also fine with a few hairline cracks and crisp carving.
