Manufactured in 1943. Fixed sights, the left side of the slide marked with the intertwined "USS" company logo and "U.S. & S. CO./SWISSVALE, PA. U.S.A." LTC Robert Downie's "RCD" proof is on the left side of the frame, a thin checkered hammer, stamped trigger, checkered slide catch and thumb safety, arched mainspring housing, Keyes-Fiber grips, and correct High Standard barrel. According to an included narrative written by James F. Smith, nephew of James A. Smith, "Warrant Officer James A Smith was issued this US&S Swissvale M1911A1, during his World War II US Army Service, in the South Pacific. He had a life long interest in firearms as a gun collector and made his living with his brothers in the printing business where he was a publisher of the Antique Pistol Book, was a target designer, target printer and target marketer…Dad's brother, James A. Smith had given him this US&S Swissvale M1911 A1 45 ACP that he carried with him in the South Pacific during WWII. James returned home to New Jersey on the day I was born in June 1945… James A Smith enlisted in August 1941 and became a Warrant Officer in the South Pacific." With provenance including James A. Smith U.S. Army pins, scanned photographs, targets, and background narrative. Includes US Army holster marked "SEARS/1942", and web belt. Extra magazine is modern replacement. Known as "Thug" Targets, the accompanying B-60 targets were acquired by Smith's nephew during his high school and college summer breaks when he packed boxes of NRA targets for shipment across the U.S. The B-60 target was originally printed and promoted in the late 1950s by James A Smith at Speedwell Press for police and shooting ranges. It was recently adopted by ICE and is now called the B-60 ICE but better known by its nickname, "The Thug".

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 97% original Dulite finish with minor handling marks and surface wear. Grips are also excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The leather holster has deteriorated on at least 40% of the surface with very fine belt.
