Description:

This beautiful Colt Double Barrel Shotgun was manufactured in 1890. Colt manufactured approximately 7,366 Model 1883 shotguns between 1883 and 1895. It features a single brass bead sight on the textured and extended solid rib which is marked "COLTS PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT U S A". The action has lightly engraved borders and accents. The bottom of the action is marked: "PATENTED/AUG 22. SEP 19.1882". The engraving patterns extends to the trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table, barrel flat and forearm hardware. Additional features include double triggers, a tang mounted automatic safety and a multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm with ebony forend insert and round knob pistol grip stock with a Colt embossed checkered hard rubber buttplate and silver initial oval. Measurements: 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors, choked full/modified, and 14 1/4 inch length of pull. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 95% of the highly attractive original Damascus pattern is retained with only slight fading and 70% plus of the original vivid case colors remain with some areas such as the bottom of the action more vibrant. 75% of the blue finish remains with some fading from handling on the lower tang and rear forearm piece. The wood is also very fine with a few small dings or nicks and otherwise crisp checkering and smooth varnish. The buttplate has some slight chips/scratches at the edges but is otherwise in very fine condition. These Colt shotguns are uncommon in any condition, but examples in this high of condition are exceedingly rare.
