Description:

The Stevens Model 51 was manufactured c. 1896-1916 and is essentially a deluxe version of the "Walnut Hill" No. 50. The rifle is fitted with a windgauge front sight and a mid-range Vernier tang peep sight. There is no rear sight seat. The barrel has the two-line Chicopee Falls address/patent date legend on the top flat, "32.20" on the upper left flat, the number "1" on the bottom flat, and an illegible marking on the underside just ahead of the forearm. The barrel is numbered to the gun. The factory deep relief scroll engraved receiver is fitted with double set triggers and a ball and spur lever. The two screw forearm and straight grip stock are checkered. The buttstock has a right handed cheekpiece and heavy Swiss buttplate. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine overall. The barrel retains 75% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. 25% original case colors remain on the receiver, otherwise faded to an attractive gray. The engraving is crisp. The buttplate has turned to a brown-gray patina. Stock wrist and forearm have repairs; otherwise, the wood is very good with some worn checkering and minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A very nice Model 51.
