Description:

Manufactured as a period copy of a Model 1873 saddle ring carbine with integral dust cover rails and a "thumbprint" dust cover. The retailer barrel is hand engraved with "G. Paul Argr 108 brt Magenta Paris" on top and what appears to be a Liege proof on the left near the breech (mostly hidden by the forearm). It is fitted with blade and notch sights, both dovetailed, and a saber bayonet lug on the right side near the muzzle. The only other visible marking is a "star/K" proof on the left front of the receiver and a saddle ring, and a staple is fitted to the left rear. It is mounted with a smooth carbine length forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 80% of the retailer applied blue finish and strong traces of the original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and a few scattered patches of very light surface pitting visible beneath the blue. The wood is also fine with some light handling marks scattered throughout and retaining most of the varnish. Mechanically excellent.
