Patterned as closely as possible after the Gewehr 98 military rifle, the "Wehrmannsgewehr" was intended for civilian or paramilitary target practice, using the commercial 8.15x46 cartridge instead of the 7.92x57, which was restricted post-World War I. These rifles were commonly produced in single shot variations, whereas this particular rifle is not single shot and has an internal magazine with spring loaded follower. The serial number of this example, 123686, places it into 1940 wartime production. Blade front and tangent rear sights with a windage adjustment knob and graduations for 100, 175 and 300 meters. The barrel has the matching serial number and caliber marking on the left at the breech. The Mauser banner is marked on top of the receiver ring, with the left of the receiver marked with stag horn and "eagle/N" proofs, the serial number and Oberndorf address. Smooth pistol grip stock with a flat steel buttplate. Small "eagle/63" Waffenamt stamp on the rear sling swivel base.

Excellent, retains 95% original commercial high polish blue finish with some light handling marks. Stock is very fine with defined edges, a chip on the right edge beneath the rear sight, and a few light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Absent rear sling swivel.
